Price band: what it means in a reading

In Meridian Engine analyses the band is the first thing that makes a reading checkable: two prices written down with a timestamp, before the market moves.

Updated 2026-10-02

This page explains a term of the method and how to check it against public data. It does not say what to do in any market.

Definition

The price interval, bounded by two stated levels, in which the reading applies.

The two levels are not picked by eye: they come from the structure of the chart, meaning highs, lows and clusters of equal levels, and they are stated with the timeframe they come from.

What it is for

A band turns an opinion into something that can be checked. While price stays inside, the reading describes what is happening. An hourly close beyond a stated level is one of the ways the reading no longer holds, which is why every analysis states the band and the invalidation conditions together.

Two examples from published readings

BTCUSD · 9 August 2026 · issued at 00:09 UTC

Price locked in a band of about 100 points, 64,886.5–64,986.9, about 1.3 times the 14-period hourly ATR. One of the three invalidation conditions was price outside the prior day's range: at 02:00 UTC price fell below 64,794.3, the prior day's low, and the reading no longer held, as written.

XAUUSD · 24 September 2026 · issued at 00:28 UTC

Band 4,300.1–4,318.9. An hourly close above 4,318.9 would have invalidated the reading. By 21:30 UTC it had not happened, checked on Binance PAXGUSDT and COMEX futures.

How to check it yourself

Hourly bars from any public source are enough. After the issue time, look for an hourly close beyond either level. Times refer to the close of the bar, in UTC.
