The instrument

BTCUSD is the price of one bitcoin in US dollars. Unlike forex and metals it trades all the time, weekends included, which is why a BTCUSD reading can be issued at any hour. The reading of 9 August came out on a Sunday, at 00:09 UTC, with forex and metals closed.

How a reading is checked

BTCUSD readings are checked on Binance BTCUSDT hourly bars, adjusted by the broker/reference divergence recorded at issue: −8.8 basis points in the reading of 9 August, −10.4 in the one of 1 October. The tolerance is stated in each reading: about 5 basis points on 9 August, 30 points on 1 October.
