Market sessions
What time does the London session open?
At 08:00 London time, and it closes at 17:00. In UTC that is 07:00 to 16:00 while the United Kingdom is on summer time, until 25 October 2026, and 08:00 to 17:00 in winter. London is the largest forex centre: about 38% of global turnover, according to the BIS Triennial Survey 2022.
What are the Asian session hours?
Tokyo trades from 09:00 to 18:00 local time, and Japan has no daylight saving, so in UTC the window is 00:00 to 09:00 all year round. Sydney opens a few hours earlier, but this clock follows the three largest centres: Tokyo, London and New York, each in its own local time.
What are New York's forex hours?
From 08:00 to 17:00 New York time. In UTC that is 12:00 to 21:00 while the United States is on daylight time, until 1 November 2026, and 13:00 to 22:00 in winter. The New York Stock Exchange keeps its own hours, 09:30 to 16:00 local time, which this clock does not show.
When do London and New York overlap?
From 08:00 in New York to 17:00 in London: 12:00 to 16:00 UTC in summer and 13:00 to 17:00 UTC in winter. In the weeks when Europe and the United States change their clocks on different dates, 8–28 March and 25–31 October 2026, the overlap lasts five hours, from 12:00 to 17:00 UTC.
It is the window in which the two largest forex centres are open together: according to the BIS Triennial Survey 2022, the United Kingdom accounts for about 38% of global turnover and the United States for about 19%. What changes in 2026, week by week, is in the guide Daylight saving 2026: forex hours in the mismatched week.
When does forex close on Friday?
On this clock forex and metals close from Friday 22:00 UTC to Sunday 22:00 UTC. The exact time differs by a few minutes from one broker to another, and your own platform is the reference. Crypto trades all the time, which is why a reading on BTCUSD can be issued at the weekend.
Hours of each centre
These are the usual hours of each centre, in its own local time. The clock converts them with the browser's time zone database (IANA), daylight saving included. It uses no prices and no market data.
| Centre | Local time | Time zone |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo | 09:00–18:00 | Asia/Tokyo, no daylight saving |
| London | 08:00–17:00 | Europe/London |
| New York | 08:00–17:00 | America/New_York |
In 2026 daylight saving ends in Europe on 25 October and in the United States on 1 November. For that week London and New York are four hours apart instead of five, and the overlap lasts one hour longer.
Why the time matters in a reading
Every reading by Meridian Engine, by Horizon AI, carries its issue time and the conditions that would invalidate it, referred to the close of the hourly bar in UTC. The gold reading of 24 September 2026 was issued at 00:28 UTC, with Tokyo open; the BTCUSD reading of 9 August 2026 at 00:09 UTC, with forex and metals closed for the weekend and crypto still trading.
BTCUSD, 9 August 2026 · XAUUSD, 24 September 2026 · BTCUSD, 1 October 2026 (no trade)
The next Meridian Engine readings are published with their conditions written in advance, and the outcome checked afterwards. Joining the waitlist gets you the code for a free first analysis straight away.
